Sanur to Timbok

Monday, November 29
The yoga tour was over, and Barbara and I hired a driver to take us to Tembok.  We stopped to visit a temple along the way.

Our guide pointed out the Balinese musical instruments.  Balinese music has five tones, whereas western music has seven.

I played this Balinese drum.  It reminds me of the Indian packawaj instrument I used to play at satsang kirtan.

We stopped and had lunch at a restaurant overlooking the Gunung Agung volcano.  In 1963 it blew its top.  The catastrophic eruption killed a thousand people and destroyed entire villages.  Streams of lava poured right down to the sea at several places, completely isolating the eastern end of Bali for some time.
