Nyuun Yoga

Wednesday, December 1
Today I experienced the most difficult yoga class I have ever had with Wayan.  Nyuun yoga is described in the club guide as “Combines basic asanas with attention to body alignment, ultimately helps improving posture and powers of concentration.”
I have admired the Balinese women who balance huge loads on their head with such grace and equanimity.  At Tamin Sari the room attendants carried stacks of towels on their head.

At the dive site in Tulamben I saw them balance air tanks on their head.  Now I have a new appreciation for this practice.    Wayan showed me how to coil a scarf, place it on my head, and place a basket on top.  The basket was filled with towels.  Now let’s try walking around the room.  Now pick up the pace.  Now stop, focus, concentrate, pick up my right foot, tree pose.  So far so good, on my good side.  Then I lost my basket on the other side.  Then we went on to Warrior I, Warrior II, back to Warrior I, Warrior III (!) and my basket came crashing down again.  Whew!  This will take some practice.  Every time I think about this, my posture improves.
